Keeping Kids WarmKeeping Kids Warm

All Knitters' Day Out participants are asked to donate a garment -- a hat, scarf, or mittens -- as part of their Knitters' Day Out registration. "Keeping Kids Warm" has been part of the KDO mission since its inception. Each year, through your skill and generosity, typically 300-400 hats are donated to agencies that help clothe kids in need. Organizations receiving donations have included St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Mechanicsburg, Mission Central in Mechanicsburg, and Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg.

You may use a pattern as simple or complex as you like. Keep in mind that items sized for small children should not include choking hazards. If you need some ideas, we have linked to Ravelry hat, scarf, and mitten patterns. This is merely a starting point -- please feel free to modify the search to find other items. And it goes without saying that you absolutely may use your own favorite patterns.

KDO 2017When you arrive, you'll find there is a large 'crib' where you may leave your contribution. You may request to have your hat judged by our guest teachers by simply putting your name on the item and leaving it on the registration table; winners are currently awarded a $10 dollar prize.
